Peter was born at Bangerang, VIC in 1889 to Charles Moore and Marianne Young. Peter married Edith May Matilda Masters at Bangerang in 1911 and they had at least one child, Charles, born at Bacchus Marsh in 1912. Peter had three brothers, George, David and James, who are also remembered in the Avenue.
Peter was an Asylum Attendant and gave his address as Melton, VIC when he enlisted in the AIF on the 9th of August 1915, aged almost 26. He embarked aboard the RMS Orontes in late March 1916, disembarking in Egypt in early April - a remarkably quick trip.
Peter embarked from Egypt for England in late May or early June 1916 on the HMT Nile - while onboard he was charged with
smoking between decks and forfeited two days pay. He was AWL for three days in July before being admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Larkhill with a sprained ankle - he joined the 21st Battalion in France in December. In March 1917 he was again in hospital for a month with a sprained ankle - rejoining his unit in May. Shortly after returning from two weeks leave in England, Peter was wounded in action in early October and invalided back to England and admitted to the 1st Southern General Hospital, Stourbridge, Birmingham with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
Two days after being discharged to two weeks furlough in November Peter was again in hospital with a sprained right ankle - clearly more than a simple sprain. He was again AWL for three days in February - forfeited three days pay - before he embarked from England aboard the Suevic in April - injured right ankle - returning to Australia in June. Peter was AWL for a day on two occasions while at the 16th Australian General Hospital, Macleod, VIC in October before he was discharged from the AIF in November.
Peter was living in Reservoir, VIC in 1929 and Abbotsford in 1932 - where his house burnt down. He was still in Abbotsford in 1942 when he enlisted in the Australian Army - V147110. Peter was discharged from the Army in 1943 as a Lance Corporal.
Peter Moore died at Heidelberg, VIC in 1951, aged 63.
He is listed on the Roll of Honour for Bacchus Marsh, held by the RSL at Bacchus Marsh.
