Norman Davison was born at Rowsley, VIC on the 2nd of July 1896 to David Davison and Margaret Pace. Norman had two brothers, Alan and Robert and a cousin James - KIA - who are also remembered in the Avenue.
His aunt, Elizabeth Allan (formerly married to Robert Clark, nee Davison) had two sons, Archibald and William, who are also remembered in the Avenue.
Norman was a labourer and gave his address as Rowsley, VIC when he enlisted at Bacchus Marsh, VIC in the AIF, 13th Australian Light Horse Regiment, on the 4th of December 1914, age 18. He embarked aboard the HMAT A34 Persic in May 1915, disembarking in Egypt in late June.
The light horse were considered unsuitable for the initial operations at Gallipoli, but were subsequently deployed without their horses. The 13th Light Horse landed on 11 September 1915. For most of its time at Gallipoli the regiment manned the trenches at Lone Pine, one of the most heavily contested parts of the ANZAC front line. After returning to Egypt he became part of the 4th Divisional Cavalry before disembarking at Marseilles, France in June - he spent a month in hospital prior to leaving Egypt, with mumps.
In July 1916 he rejoined the 13th Light Horse which had reformed as part of the 1st ANZAC Mounted Troops. He was granted two weeks leave in September 1917. In April 1918 he was hospitalised in France for two months before rejoining his unit in June. He was granted another two weeks leave in late October before he returned to England in late December and embarked for Australia aboard the Ceramic in late January 1919, returning home in March and discharged from the AIF in May 1919.
Norman enlisted in the Australian Army on the 29th of March 1940. He was a private stationed at Queenscliff, VIC when discharged in December. He was living at Rowsley, VIC in 1967.
He is listed on the Roll of Honour for Bacchus Marsh, held by the RSL at Bacchus Marsh - on the Roll his initials are A D instead of N D.
